Before and Now of Training-Eric Fiorillo The Host of The Award Winning Motivation and Muscle Streaming Radio 24/7 Welcomes Stephen Santangelo to the broadcast. Stephen is a Strength Athlete, Organic Farmer and Strongman who still competes in the long-standing tradition of old-time weightlifting. Eric and Stephen start the podcast right off with Stephen explaining his five virtues of fitness.  Running, Jumping, Throwing, and Skilled Acquisition just to name a few were the attributes associated with an Olympian athlete, a stone lifter, and thrower among many other areas of physical culture. We talk about so many earlier cultures which would be involved in track and field events, stone throwing, swordsmanship, and archery. These events were all woven in with how they lived it in their daily life culturally.  This is a far cry from today’s athletics.  We go back through history and talk about Napoleon’s armies and how they were built to be the best on the battlefield but they were also built to be the best men off the battlefield too.  Eric and Stephen talk about how the earlier athletes were much better developed metabolically and neurologically due to training many disciplines to make their primary discipline much better. In today’s athletic endeavors the athlete is very skilled but more specialized in his skill. We live in a world of convenience and complacency and very little urgency. We talk about how important it is to find your passion, your love and go after it fully. Make some real lifestyle changes which will really enhance your life. Learn the old ways of training and follow the men who did jaw-dropping lifts in the most primitive settings. Stephen talked a little bit earlier in the show about the renaissance man and how it’s not as prevalent today as it was in earlier history. Become a learned man who has a well-rounded mind to go with his well-rounded body. We talk about the great Jack Shanks and his ability at 170 pounds to lift the Dinnie Stones at a combined weight of 735 pounds. There were no lifting straps used here. Sometimes and most of the time success is going to be very painful in so many ways. Learn to do multiple disciplines to create and succeed at the one goal that means the most to you. Apply the old to the new and reap the rewards of health, strength, power and most of all a lifetime of happiness and success!
