Eric and Bill are going to discuss a real man maker exercise called the Pullover in all of its forms. This exercise like the bent row and the dip have really fallen out of favor in the strength community. These three movements can build real usable strength and power like no others. Lets talk about the two main variations of the pullover. The first is the straight arm pullover and the more popular bent arm pullover. The pullover really became popular with the 20 rep breathing squats and drinking gallons of milk to build muscular bulk. After knocking out the 20 rep breathing squats while still panting hard you would immediately grab a bar lay down on a flat bench and begin your first set of pullovers. Begin by keeping your arms in a bent arm position and creating an arc behind your head inhaling slowly until you feel a slight pull on your rib cage. Once you have reached that point you would return the bar in that same arc exhaling to the beginning position of the lift. Now for the debate. Is the pullover a chest or lat exercise? Eric and Bill think its a little of both. This compound movement works the chest, lats shoulders and triceps. Nothing looks better then a big pair of lats and a thickly muscled back for the total look of power. One thing the pullover does more then anything out there is the building of a big rib cage. This is vitally important in any athletic event especially when your carrying sand bags or stones. The bigger the rib cage the more air you can draw in. This can make or break you when walking for distance with a heavy object. So give the pullover a try and I’m sure you’ll be more then pleased at the results you’ll achieve.
