Carmen Caputo-Training Adjustments-#540-Eric Fiorillo The Host of the Award Winning Motivation and Muscle Streaming Radio 24/7 Welcomes Carmen Caputo to the broadcast. Carmen is a USA Marine Veteran, a Retired School Teacher and a Champion Weightlifter for 56 years. Eric and Carmen kick our radio show right off with something we’ve all had to do through the years. It’s called training adjustments. Carmen gives us some great insight into the aging lifter. He uses himself as the prime example. Carmen is seventy one years young and still stays with the basic movements such as the squat, deadlift and the bench press. Carmen explains to Eric that he must tailor his training to what his level of power is today and not forty years ago. Eric and Carmen address recovery and why he can still go very heavy with the weights but it takes three days to recover as opposed to one day when he was in his twenties. We talk about the ability to adjust the weights to any given day and the reality that you might have to pull back. There were times in your training were sets of fives for any given lift might now have to be reduced to sets of threes or singles. The most positive thing of these changes is your still lifting and you will keep lifting if you follow the principals we are talking about in today’s show. We also address a subject most trainees are uncomfortable talking about. That is, sustaining an injury which requires surgery. Eric tells Carmen about his bicep tear when he was in Iceland in 2008. I had to make so many adjustments at that time to be able to get back to my previous form of better. The thing that needed the most attention was my mind and how I was going to get back into the weights and stones quickly. That will always be your biggest obstacle to overcome. I did it and you will do it to. We talk about our lifelong quest and our love for the barbell. We never address it as a sport. We call it our life. This is something we constantly stress to our family and new listeners. With training adjustments comes the word commitment. You can never get anywhere without it. Commitment speaks volumes when your out of the gym. This is so true in your business and any type of relationship you enter into.
