Gary Reinl-Iced-#523-Eric Fiorillo The Host of The Award Winning Motivation and Muscle Streaming Radio Welcomes Writer and Athlete with nearly forty years in the sports-medicine field, trainer of professional athletes, pioneer of strength-building for women during pregnancy and developed rehabilitation programs for injured workers Gary Reinl to the Broadcast. This has been one of my most anticipated podcasts I have ever done with a guest since we have been on the air. Iced is one of the most controversial books I’ve ever read on a sports subject. Gary explains that icing injuries is nothing more then a medical misconception. Eric and Gary are not going to leave any stone unturned as we explore this topic. What started Gary’s initial investigation into ice was that he who is a trainer of world class athletes and elite soldiers in the military asked many of his contemporaries in the fitness field how they administered ice to the injured athlete? Every trainer had their own method on how they would administer ice to the athlete and get the healing process started so the athlete could get back onto the field. Gary wanted to find if there was a pattern that would work the best through ice applications for healing. As Gary tells Eric the next question he asked the trainers was have you seen a reasonable amount of healing when ice is applied to any injury? After a slight hesitation the answer was a resounding no. Now Gary decides to dig deeper. After doing more research into icing whether referencing the American Journal of Sports Medicine or Journal of Emergency Medicine to name a few there was insufficient evidence to support the claim that ice improves recovery. Gary proves without a doubt that icing does more harm then good. Gary presents the facts that not only does icing not prevent swelling but actually badly harms the healing process.  We talk about inflammation from an injury and the waste that is accumulated and how the lymphatic system drains it from the injury site. The only way this healing works is to get moving again or muscle activation. Stillness is the enemy.  If your interested in the  facts by a man who’s been involved in the sports field for over forty years and calls himself an investigative reporter Gary clearly states the case for why icing is wrong. I’ve listened to this podcast three times since we recorded it. Gary Reinl is by far is one of the most interesting people I’ve ever had the honor to interview. Outstanding!
