Jedd Johnson-Lower Back Health-#492-Eric Fiorillo The Host of The Award Winning Motivation and Muscle Podcast Show Welcomes Jedd Johnson to the Broadcast. Jedd is a Speaker, Performing Strongman and Three Time National Grip Strength Champion. Eric and Jedd fire right into lower back health. We start right off with how many strength athletes are constantly having some type of back problem which is limiting their ability to train heavy. Jedd tells Eric he had the same problems with his back from 2006 thru 2012. He got to the point where he could no longer tough it out, This is when he had to make a change. Eric and Jedd talk about how to rehab your back and address these heavy duty issues. Two big things of note here is, how good is your form when your training explosive back work and how well is your musculature conditioned? We talk about the reality that not everyone is of the body type structure to be a great squatter or deadlifter, Now this doesn’t mean you can’t get better or overcome these flaws in certain lifts but its going to require constant hard work and taking care of the lower back outside of the gym also. Jedd tells Eric that he believes barbell bent over rows are a movement to stay away from. Now that doesn’t mean to give up rowing. One example which will give you the same benefits or more is the one handed dumbbell row. This leads into Eric telling Jedd how he’ll row with a one inch handle and a two inch handle back and forth in a workout. What this has done is help heal the injury and now has led to greater expectations. When you can leave that nights workout and be so fired up for the next one you’ve hit upon something big! We discuss Jedds father now coming on board and being trained under his watchful eye. His dad has some serious back issues after a fall and finally decided to come on board and strengthen his body from top to bottom. Jedd suggests to Eric that some of the things to strengthen for optimal back health are the hip flexors, glutes and your posterior chain. Warmups are essential before you hit the weights and make sure you put as much time into upper back health as you do with your lower back health. Do you want a bullet proof back?
