Jon Bruney-Top Down-#503-Eric Fiorillo The Host of The Award Winning Motivation and Muscle Podcast Show Welcomes Jon Bruney to the broadcast. Jon is a Strongman, Author, Motivational Speaker, Pastor and Writer for Milo Magazine. Eric and Jon talk about one of their favorite subjects and also the families better known as Power Rack Training. Eric will explain momentarily what the top down means to the Power Rack. Eric explains briefly to Jon and our family who his influences were with the power rack and how he loves to reread old Ironman Magazine articles which center on that training. Eric explains to Jon how to get started with a heavy weight right at the top and the goal is to eventually blast it dead stop off the rods at parallel. The squat is dead stopped off the rods and the spacing between the holes in you power rack is normally two inches. The idea here is to keep moving the weight down the rack making you as Jon says a superman. The way we keep moving the weight down the rack is through sheets of eighth and quarter inch plywood put inside the rack which you will stand on cutting the distance you will travel until you can reach the next hole. Jon explains to Eric and our family that recovery is vitally important for success here. Not only are you pushing the musculature to the limit but the central nervous system is getting the beating of a lifetime. Jon gives us a couple of alternative ways to enhance top down and make a 500 pound dead stop squat seem easy. One thing we must stress here is that many of your exercises will need to be either dropped or paired down for a while. This is very important to do to keep making progress with the heavy rack work. Eric and Jon talk about when were having an off day in the rack one of the best things to do is either modify the weight for the day at the top or even move it to mid point in the rack at a much lighter weight. The idea here is to never surrender and no matter what keep the mind and body making progress. Eric and Jon talk about the warmup movements you’ll need to do to really enhance your rack work. Two key points Jon gives us is how to directly work our knees and feet to accomplish this.
