The last few podcasts we’ve been really hitting upon big lifts and getting a one rep maximum. Eric and Ken get right into what it takes to clean and press a log overhead. Overhead pressing has lost a lot of appeal in today’s strength world in many ways. We at Motivation and Muscle plan to bring it back in a big way. Eric and Ken still agree to get great at the log press you must log press.
But there are other things we can add to the log press which will speed up the process.
One exercise we felt to be paramount in this process was the front squat.
We made reference to stone carries, dumbbell presses, sandbag work and how each of these great exercises are all done out in front of you. This is why the front squat transitions so well to the exercises we just spoke about.
Another exercise that will really help with pressing is the bent row. Let’s face it lats, erectors and traps all are invoked with fury when were ready to bust something very big overhead.
Eric and Ken talk about deadlifts, floor presses and bent over flyes which all play a role in your success with the press.
Ken describes how a certain way he benches has helped increase the weight he has been using lately for going overhead.
