Chris an I talk about the biggest complaint with shoulders as we age is an injury in that area and the never ending the loss of mobility.
Eric and Chris talk about one of the biggest reasons why there are so much more shoulder injuries today. There is a pronounced lack of balance between the front, sides and the back of the delts. Most guys just want to work on the showy muscles meaning the bench press and the barbell curls. One of the best ways to avoid shoulder injuries if this is how your training is to introduce Deadlifts into your routine. Two other movements which will greatly aid you in your shoulder health are the Farmers Walk and Kettle Bell Swings. The main reason for doing these 3 outstanding lifts are that squeezing something heavy can do wonders for your rotator strength and health.
Eric and Chris talk about your mobility and the ways to remove the kinks out of a hard worked body either from training or what you do for an occupation. We talk about the use of foam rolling, lacrosse balls, and massage chairs just to name a few modalities to get yourself healthy and back doing what you do best.
Eric and Chris wrap up our great podcast with learning one of the most important lessons ever for overall health and especially for shoulder balance. Learn to listen to your body! This is so overlooked today and is such a simplistic way to live. Let’s talk about a real life example. How many people do you know and possibly even yourself can’t understand why they can’t make gains in size or strength and wonder why they are always out of gas. The most common answer and usually the correct answer is being in a overtrained state. This is a case where you’re doing way more than your body can handle and over a certain amount of time you will weaken or break something. This is why we need to listen to our body, learn to back off our training regime or take some much needed time off to rest the body fully.
