Eric and Pawel kick the show right off with how vitally important it is to have good healthy shoulders and their role in the gym and everyday life. Pawel tells Eric that normally most trainees shoulders are out of place. By this, Pawel explains that the shoulder must be reset meaning getting it back into the socket. When this is reestablished pressing overhead will become fluid again. We talk about how your posture is one of the main problems with shoulder aches and injuries. What happens with poor posture is the shoulders are pulled forward instead of back and this contributes to making the area sore and painful. Having weak lats are another contributing factor to unhealthy weak shoulders.Eric and Pawel talk about how much working on a computer contributes to shoulder issues. Always hunching over and constantly bringing your shoulders forward lends itself not only to repetitive stress but next we will be experiencing headaches and pain in our neck area. Some of the things we do to remedy these problems are working the lat area and the posterior chain. In time these two areas will be so strong that the constant sitting at the job will no longer be a contributing factor to unhealthy shoulders.Pawel tells Eric one of the best body weight movements he uses at his own gym to reset the health of the shoulders is the good old fashioned push up and planks. After the shoulders have become healthy Pawels next phase of the build up is rotational movements. Pawel states that we want to open the shoulder up and the best way to accomplish this is through club training. Eric and Pawel talk about in the case of the established athlete experiencing the same problems with their shoulders is the protocol you practice much different? It’s not. Pawel explains to Eric that he would get the athlete started training in the plank position, training with light clubs and getting in a hang position to open up the shoulder capsule, supply the nutrients needed and establish the general health of that area.Eric and Pawel talk about the ups and downs of everything we do and experience in training and in life.
