Steel and Stone-Eric Fiorillo The Host of The Award Winning Motivation and Muscle Streaming Radio 24/7 Welcomes Stone Lifter, Farmer, and Highland Games Competitor Charlie Blair Oliphant to the Broadcast.Eric and Charlie talk about two of their favorite subjects. They are none other than Steel and Stone! We start talking about Charlie’s goal of lifting the Dinnie Stones in late summer and what he has been doing with the weights for the preparation to meeting his objective! He has been working with Strongman Andrew Cairney to make sure all of his ligaments, tendons, bone and Muscle are at their peak strength! Charlie tells Eric that he traveled to fellow strongman and Stone lifter Stephen Murray’s gym where they lifted a mock set of Dinnie Stones. Every time they raised the weight of the stone they placed plates or sandbags on top of it. Charlie had no problem lifting the stones. With ten more kilos added to each stone, he would have lifted the combined weight of the stones had he actually traveled to the Dinnie Castle to do this. This proves that this new program in his weight training is definitely working to his benefit.Eric and Charlie talk about a few of the areas he felt he needed to work on to lift the Dinnie Stones. One area of need was in the upper back. These muscles must be fully functional and strong when standing up with a stone. The other two are the basics we always talk about on M&M. They are the Squat and Deadlift. One thing Charlie hit upon was his retooling of his Squat and how great it has worked out. We talk about Charlie’s success with the 10×10 rep method workout and how it’s really increased his recovery between sets but it has also really changed him mentally on how he looks at his workouts.Eric and Charlie talk about thick bar training and how important it is to be a successful stone lifter. When your training heavy holds, barbell curls, standing reverse curls and seated wrist curls you have covered the bases to be able to lock your fingers into any stone you go after. This type of direct work is a recipe for stone lifting success.We talk about the use of the hook grip and how vital is the thumb for the lifting of the Thomas Inch Dumbbell. We also address the correct way to lift and push through the feet with no torque pushed through the upper body to complete a successful lift with the Dinnie Stones.Eric and Charlie end our podcast with some very vital information to help you out in all of your stone endeavors. It’s time to crank up the Power Rack. Let’s go after the weakest point that can cause strains and tears when you are lifting these huge objects that want to stay glued to the ground. Stones! Hit the Power Rack from every angle with your lifts. Isometrics and Isotonics are a must and must be practiced on a constant basis. This will create such power and strength through your musculature that the amount of force you’ll be able to exhibit at any point will be mind blowing. Charlie also talks about the rest-pause system. This is another way of pushing through our sticking point in our training. The thing which is so exciting here is there are so many ways to become your best in anything we do. But since were talking about ways through the iron to lift bigger and bigger stones lets all get involved and lift a stone of beauty and history.
