Travel-Eric Fiorillo The Host of The Award Winning Motivation and Muscle Streaming Radio 24/7 Welcomes Dr. Mark Kovacs to the Podcast. Mark is a performance physiologist, researcher, professor, author, speaker and coach with an extensive background training and researching elite athletes. Eric and Mark start our Podcast Show off with some of Mark’s latest travels. We talk about Marks recent trip to China to take a look at their Olympic athletes and how they do things differently from our own in the USA. Mark went to their training center to meet with the different coaches and exchange training concepts. Mark said it is really very interesting to see the treating, training and rehabbing of their athletes. Weightlifting is very important to these athletes and their training is based more on high volume which is much different from how we train in the USA. One other interesting statistic in China with their Olympic athletes was for every 10 athletes we have here in USA Gyms they have hundreds in their gyms. This number allows them to take more risks with their athletes due to shear numbers.
We address why is the USA so far behind in the Olympic Style Sports. The main reason is our country really doesn’t invest dollars into theses sports. As far as our popular sports such as the NBA or NFL it has become the haves and has not. What this means is you’ll have your elite athletes thriving and then the other half of the population sadly out of shape just watching.
Next, we leave for Wimbledon to talk tennis. Mark was in Wimbledon to work with these superior athletes. We talked about the tennis player and what is the role of the weight room in their careers. The first question of major importance is the work in the weight room translating to the tennis court? Secondly, the tennis athlete has to have strength, speed, and endurance all rolled into one for success. The way these athletes do this is through various forms of Squats,  Deadlifts and they tend to do more Band Style work for their Pressing Movements. Mark also has his Tennis Players doing lots of lower arm work with movements such as thick bar training and tire flipping. We all know the body power generation these movements produce.
Eric and Mark finish our informational Podcast off with some serious factors concerning poor performance over time. Two of theses conditions are better known as Adrenal Fatigue and Hormonal Disruptions. The majority of the time these two problems are caused by poor sleep and lack of the proper nutrition. The common denominator we see with all of these athletes is that after they’ve given their heart and soul to their training they seem to forget that their bodies need to recover fully for their next training session. One thing Mark stressed is what is your genetic potential? From what he has seen and coached very few athletes ever hit their genetic ceiling. What’s more important to concentrate on is who is coaching you, your mentors and how will you apply your dreams and goals to get to where you want.  Training is not a 90 day program its a lifetime!
