Wade Johnson-Decline Press-#485-Eric Fiorillo The Host of The Award Winning Motivation and Muscle Podcast Show welcomes Wade Johnson to the Broadcast. Wade is the owner of the Ogre Compound , Champion Powerlifter, Olympic Lifter and Coach/Trainer. Eric and Wade open the show with Wade and his girlfriend Melissa competing in Relentless Minnesota. We talk about Melissa’s personal records for the weekend and Wade ‘s relentless pursuit to lift his best through injury and the recent death of a good friend. Eric and Wade move right into the decline bench and why something that is so uncommon to see is a staple of Wade and the Ogre Compound. Wade describes the influence of the decline press came from Bob Shieffer who wrote with Wade at PowerMag Magazine. Bob and Wade began to correspond by email and Wade wanted Bob to come out and evaluate not only his training but his training principals. This is when Bob suggested the incline press bench to Wade. Wade went with a much steeper decline bench angle then other commercial benches. This really takes out the harsh beating our shoulders get from constantly flat benching. Wade really wanted to train the bench press twice a week but realized that this wasn’t going to happen on a flat bench. Bob stressed to Wade that if he gave the decline bench press a chance for eight weeks there would only be a positive response to his flat bench in competition. Bob was right and Wades flat bench press grew bigger. Another big thing to come out of the decline bench press was Wade no longer needed all of the auxiliary movements he had to do when he was strictly using the flat bench press to increase his total. We talk about the unorthodox lifts that we do and how they translate to every other lift. Wade has so many students he teaches this philosophy to and it proves itself over and over.
