Jon Bruney-Big Strong Arms-#424

Eric Fiorillo The Host of The Award Winning Motivation and Muscle Podcast Show Welcomes Jon Bruney to the broadcast. Jon Bruney is a Strongman, Author, Motivational Speaker, Pastor and Writer for Milo Magazine.

With the summer weather fast approaching who doesn’t want to have a huge set of pipes or guns hanging off their shoulders?

Big arms are something everyone admires whether your in the iron game or not. Eric and John talk about how important it is to work the arms especially the bicep. This is a body part that is usually neglected and handles so much of the load especially during stone lifting.

Eric and Jon discuss bicep injuries and why they occur. These injuries occur when a stone is lifted incorrectly, weak ligaments and tendons and from not training the bicep at many angles to create a bullet proof arm.

Speaking of weak links with most strongman movements. It’s normally the bicep which is that link. We need to understand that you can have the strongest hip girdle, hamstrings, lower back and posterior chain but if the biceps are weak that stone is not coming off the ground. If you keep trying to pull that stone the bicep will tear.

Eric and Jon give you some different bicep exercises which as I mentioned above will train the bicep at every angle.

Jon tells Eric how he is using a muscle stimulator to drill down as deep as he can into the bicep for developing more strength and health in his biceps.

Eric tells Jon about his new pressing discovery which really hammers the tricep along with the other body parts that come into play.

Eric is floor pressing a loaded 55 gallon drums and pressing a 2″ 100lb dumbbell inside his power rack. Eric goes back and forth. Just think about the power and size your triceps and biceps will eventually have.

Jon describes a product he invented called the gym keg. This was a keg with 3 different handles and sized handles where once again the arms, especially the biceps, would be hit at various angles.

Once again this podcast is loaded with everything you’ll ever need to build tank like arms. Grow, Grow, Grow!

Max Shank-Foundations & Flexibility-#423

Eric Fiorillo The Host of The Award Winning Motivation and Muscle Podcast Show Welcomes Writer, Speaker, Trainer, Martial Artist, Highland Games Athlete, Bodybuilder and Powerlifter Max Shank to the Broadcast.

Eric and Max start the podcast off with how to build a very strong lifting foundation through multiple disciplines.

Max believes that a good way to find out how great you can be is to learn how to do many forms of physical culture to see where your passion lies. This is very important because by building so many of styles of training this can only make you a better athlete when you settle on one specific discipline.

Eric and Max agree this should not limit you to getting involved in other sports which attract you. We also agree upon that once you’ve done all the ground work the universe of physical culture is yours.

One example Max and Eric talked about was what if you didn’t like to do pull ups for shoulder and upper back development what would you do?

When we want to foundationally build strong shoulders  and the upper back the exercises could be dumbbell presses, power clean and press, shrugs or any type of heavy pulling movements.

The point of this whole show is that there is always something out there to work on so your body will feel like an oak tree rooted right into the ground. This is where foundations come from.

Another huge topic was Max’s new book called Simple Shoulder Solutions.  How many of us have had shoulder problems past and present?

As Max tells Eric this course will take your shoulders from broken to unbreakable.

One interesting aspect in the 3’s is the 80 percent rule. We can’t always have a 100 percent training day with the weights but with the 80 percent rule even on a lighter day you’ll still leave a little in the gym. This will enable you to have those big days again and stay injury free. Longevity is yours with a little common sense training. Your gains in size and strength will  increase once again.

Mike Gillette-Injuries-#422

Eric Fiorillo The Host of The Award Winning Motivation and Muscle Podcast Show Welcomes Army Paratrooper, SWAT Commander, Bodyguard to Fortune 500 Executives, a Record-Breaking Motivational Strongman, and writer and author Mike Gillette to the Broadcast.

What a podcast you’re about to hear! Eric and Mike talk about injuries.

This is a word we all want to avoid and not address. We on the other hand know it needs to be talked about and will give you our experiences and discoveries. Eric and Mike discuss his recent bicep tear. Mike had one on his right bicep prior to this tear. When we push very hard constantly things are going to break no matter how strong and sound you are.

Eric and Mike talk about the I told you so’s. These are well intentioned friends and family who like to tell you maybe you should slow down or give up your strength life all together. Mike was adamant  when he said that ain’t going to happen.

See lifters are a different breed of person. They are constantly trying to figure out some way to always become better, to heal faster and become mentally faster. It’s very hard to sit around and try to heal.

Eric and Mike talk about what this can do mentally. Eric relates a story of a brother who was a very good Olympic lifter only to have injured his lower back. After going through the steps to heal this injury and make a comeback it never happened.

He recovered physically but never recovered mentally.

Don’t let that happen to you.

We also talk about the jubilation of having the doctor give you the green light to get back to your passion. Honestly, you feel brand new.

Eric and Mike talk about the mental power you begin to generate and how all those weaknesses you had are trampled and smashed down into the ground. As we talked about the line from Rocky four when Adrian said to Rocky”why can’t you change?” As Mike said to Eric I don’t want to change. I second that!

Eric Guttmann-Joint Health-#421

Eric Fiorillo The Host of The Award Winning Motivation and Muscle Podcast Show Welcomes Eric Guttmann to the broadcast. Eric is a Naval Officer, Strongman, Writer, Trainer and Speaker.

Eric and Eric kick the podcast right off with building joint health which will last you a life time.

Eric and Eric explain fully that joint aches, cracking and in some instances being practically disabled will not bode well for your lifting career.

Eric tells us he was facing this hard reality and decided to change his training program for a short spell. When he changed his training to using machines  and some body weight movements for a short duration he found that the aches were starting to disappear. Some of his older injuries he had accumulated through the decades were minimized.

Eric said that he has started to work out with free weights again and he is beginning the break in phase. Eric explains that his body feels great and the weights are moving quickly, explosively and he is building so much strength and power. It just goes to the point that subtle changes for a short period of time can really renew and refresh your body.

Our next topic of conversation was how to alkalize your body. We all know when your in an acidic state the potential for disease is quite prevalent. We talk about a few of the steps you’ll need to take to get your health on the right track.

We finished off the show with how is the best way to fully recover your body from vigorous exercise? One example of this is to practice full joint mobility exercise.

As Eric related to his own story where he had injured a ligament in his ankle. He was told it would take 18 months to heal. Eric was sick of the pain and decided to do some joint mobility research. After finding out what he had to do to recover from his injury his 18 month prognosis for healing was solved in one week.

Solid information to train to your zenith!

James Fuller-Ruthless Iron-#420

James Fuller-Ruthless Iron-#420-Eric Fiorillo The Host of The Award Winning Motivation and Muscle Podcast Show Welcomes James Fuller to the broadcast. James is an All Around Lifter, A master of the Bent Press and Grip Extraordinaire. Eric and James blast right into Ruthless Iron. This topic is really all about guts. Eric and James talk about how the Iron never lies. It’s just waiting and daring you to take it on. Now to our M&M Family that might sound like the iron is alive. Well it is in many ways! As we said in the beginning your going to need guts to complete any of these hard nose lifting days. Some days the iron will put you on bended knees and on other days you’ll have ruled the day and had your arms up in victory.  What ruthless iron will do more then ever for you is create a mind and a body where through lots of struggle and defeat it becomes relentless in your pursuit of excellence. This is so critical in both the gym and in your personal life. In my own personal experiences I think its great when you can walk through a blizzard with a stone barely being able to see 3 feet in front of you. How about when its 20 below and your out of heat and you still go out to front squat having the bar stick to your throat. As my father would tell me if your going to give it out you better be willing to take it and rise above it. Eric and James give you the mind metal to run head on into the Ruthless Metal and survive, lick your wounds and take it on another day with a big victory in mind! We love ruthless metal. Join us? Bud Jeffries-Isometrics-#418

Eric Fiorillo The Host of The Award Winning Motivation and Muscle Podcast Show Welcomes Bud Jeffries to the Broadcast. Bud is a Strength coach, author, motivational speaker, minister, business owner and one of only a handful of professional performing strongman on tour in the USA.

Eric and Bud talk about one of their styles of lifting which is isometrics.

If you’ve seen Bud as of late on Facebook you can witness the sheer power it takes to move massive weights through a short distance and push against another set of rods for a timed hold.

Nothing measures up to isometric work like a program loaded with pulls and pushes. You can become real creative with odd objects and make some massive gains when used in the same capacity.

Would you like to become an immovable object?

Eric and Bud go deeply into how to accomplish this. We talk about the York Barbell Club where isometrics were born and the power rack came into prominence in the 1960’s.

Bill March was constantly featured in articles demonstrating the power you could generate via using large weights and traveling any distance you chose to push against.

The rack solved a lifters weak points thus building not only more strength, ligament size, tendon size and thicker bones and thicker muscles.

The ability to be so strong on your feet is the reason why this type of training is so prevalent in martial arts and wrestling.

When you can be so anchored to the ground and have such explosion in your musculature  not much out there will defeat your skills.

Isometrics will demand from you like no other sets of exercises but will reward you with a big thick massive physique which will be usable in the real world. You will have a physical and mental resolve like no other.

So invest in yourself, a power rack and a whole bunch of isometrics.

Bill Hinbern-Tommy Kono-#417

Eric Fiorillo Host of The Award Winning Motivation and Muscle Podcast Show Welcomes Bill Hinbern to the broadcast. Bill Hinbern is a strength historian, a strength athlete who is dedicated to over 50 years of teaching the value of strength and physical culture and the owner of the world famous Superstrengthtraining.com web site.

Eric and Bill start the podcast right off talking about Tamio “Tommy” Kono who had recently passed away.

Bill tells us about what a great Olympic weight lifting champion Tommy was and how Kono set records in four different weight classes.

Bill goes on to tell Eric how Kono was a bodybuilding champion also.

Kono was born in Sacramento California in June of 1930. Kono’s family was relocated to Tule Lake Internment Camp in 1942 during WW II. Tommy was a sickly kid who at this time of relocation was introduced to weightlifting. After 3 1/2 years in the internment camp Tommy’s family were allowed to leave and he finished his high school education in Sacramento California.

As Bill tells Eric Tommy was drafted for the Korean war but was kept home  after officials learned of his Olympic potential.

Kono was a gold medalist at both the 1952 and the 1956 Summer Olympics. Kono was also a silver medalist in the 1960 Summer Olympics. Kono won the World Weightlifting Championships six consecutive times from 1953 to 1959 and was a three-time Pan American Games Champion in 1955, 1959 and 1963.

Tommy trained by himself three to four times a week and could gain or lose weight very easily. He had flawless technique on the three Olympic lifts and later went on to be part of the famous York Barbell Club.

Tommy Kono was an American Hero who aspired to the word Champion. He will be sorely missed.

Shawn Mozen-Masters of Movement-#415

Eric Fiorillo The Host of The Award Winning Motivation and Muscle Podcast Show Welcomes Agatsu President, The foremost Kettlebell  authority in Canada, Martial Artist and Functional Fitness Instructor Shawn Mozen to the Broadcast.

What a high octane show we have for you today. Our good friend Shawn Mozen joins Eric to talk about his program which he hosts all over the world called Masters of Movement.

Shawn tells Eric he just got back from Bali Indonesia where his last seminar just took place.

Eric and Shawn discuss how these events are designed to take you out of your comfort zone and show your athleticism.

Shawn gave a few examples which would really get your testosterone juices flowing such as surfing and repelling down a mountain through a waterfall. These two modalities are not only very physical but extremely thought provoking things to go after.

This leads us to discuss many different weight lifting exercises/challenges we like to do to see what were made of.

We talk about powerlifting, olympic lifting, kettlebells and our favorite strongman. We feel that everyone of these movements have great benefits but we agree that strongman has the carryover more so then anything we have tried.

We talk about our love for Iceland and the Husafell Stone.

Shawn has done a Masters of Movements in Iceland and befriended Magnus Ver Magnussen while he was there. Magnus introduced Shawn to Hafthor Bjornsson when they were over in Iceland.

Eric and Shawn talked about some of his Masters of Movement Events coming up. Very interesting stuff I might add.

Take yourself out of your comfort zone and watch the change within you happen. This is what this podcast will inspire you to do!
