Eric and Bill start the show right off with who or what got you into stone lifting?

We both answer that question clearly.

Bill tells our Motivation and Muscle Family the rich history of stone lifting in Scotland regarding the Dinnie Stones. Bill gives us a full description from the beginning to the present of these marvelous stones. We talk about the weight of each stone and the correct way to set the body when attempting this great feat of strength.

Bill makes reference to the late Peter Martin and our good friend Roger Davis.

Of course no show would ever be complete without the Husafell  stone thrown in for good measure.

Eric and Bill also talk about Basque Stone Lifting. We both have a big interest in it. Bill said he would like to try it.

Eric and Bill really get into the philosophy of stone lifting and why its so much more difficult than using a balanced barbell. We quote the great Steve Jeck on this one. “Barbells are made to be lifted. Stones on the other hand are just defiant.”

Eric and Bill talk about the training needed to lift and succeed with the Dinnies. The grip is so vital to lifting any of these famous stones we read and hear about. The bottom line is you must put in the time and keep learning. Train in the worst elements possible because you never know what you’ll encounter.

We talk about simple implements to get your grip started such as softballs, bricks and how to construct a 2″ or 3″ Thick Bar. Eric and Adam talk about his 565lb Deadlift on a 3″ Boa Thick Bar. Hands with everything in unison will give you this strong scary strength that most strength athletes have never encountered. The big carryover from grip work or compound movements using the thick bars are is deeper, thicker muscle fiber, thick cable like ligaments and tendons and a mental focus second to none. But before we talk about the article Bryan tells our family who got him motivated to train with odd objects. He is non other then Strongman Hank Baker. When Bryan saw Hank pulling an anchor through the sand he was hooked. As Bryan said “I found out what I wanted to do.”  Bryan contacted Hank who responded and a friendship forged in steel began. Roll things forward a few years and Hank contacted Bryan about an opening in the magazine for an article that month for  which he asked Bryan if he’d be interested in doing.  Bryan decided he was interested in doing the interview. For Bryan’s part he needed to submit a bio and training footage which he proceeded to do and send to Hank. The next step was for the magazine to tie it altogether and publish Bryan’s article. Eric and Bryan discuss outdoor training and how much they enjoy it. Eric and Bryan talk about what they wear when there outside in the colder weather and why you must protect you’re skin no matter what. We discuss how far Bryan has come in the last two years and now he’s doing magazine interviews. It just goes to show you’re dreams are possible. Bill Hinbern-Pullovers-#323-Eric Fiorillo Host of The Award Winning Motivation and Muscle Podcast Show Welcomes strength historian, a strength athlete who is dedicated to over 50 years of teaching the value of strength and physical culture and the owner of the world famous Super web site Bill Hinbern to the Broadcast.  Eric and Bill are going to discuss a real man maker exercise called the Pullover in all of its forms. This exercise like the bent row and the dip have really fallen out of favor in the strength community. These three movements can build real usable strength and power like no others. Lets talk about the two main variations of the pullover. The first is the straight arm pullover and the more popular bent arm pullover.  The pullover really became popular with the 20 rep breathing squats and drinking gallons of milk to build muscular bulk.  After knocking out the 20 rep breathing squats while still panting hard you would immediately grab a bar lay down on a flat bench and begin your first set of pullovers.  Begin by keeping your arms in a bent arm position and creating an arc behind your head inhaling slowly until you feel a slight pull on your rib cage. Once you  have reached that point you would return the bar in that same arc exhaling to the beginning position of the lift. Now for the debate. Is the pullover a chest or lat exercise?  Eric and Bill think its a little of both. This compound movement works the chest, lats shoulders and triceps. Nothing looks better then a big pair of lats and a thickly muscled back for the total look of power. One thing the pullover does more then anything out there is the building of a big rib cage. This is vitally important in any athletic event especially when your carrying sand bags or stones. The bigger the rib cage the more air you can draw in. This can make or break you when walking for distance with a heavy object. So give the pullover a try and I’m sure you’ll be more then pleased at the results you’ll achieve. Bill related this on Motivation and Muscle and could not believe the size of Paul. After they exchanged a handshake and a hello Paul’s handler said it was time to get ready for the event. Bill and Paul were speaking in front of a stage when Paul leaped from the floor to the stage effortlessly. This speaks volumes to what a complete athlete he was. We talk about his gold medal win in the Olympics and how a fever and a request to God changed his life forever.  Drew talks about all the videos he’s watched of Paul in action and he shakes his head in disbelief of how a man who weighed 350 pounds could sprint, jump and lift such enormous weights with such ease.
