Ken Nowicki-Strongman Diet Success-#259-Eric and Ken discuss his new diet and how he has drawn so much success from it. After the Arnold Ken decided he was no longer going to compete in the heavy weight class, deciding to move down to the middle weight class . Ken found that all the dieting and cardio he was doing to trim down was becoming not only counter productive to his goals but he was losing strength and not recovering.  Ken told me he ended up hiring a strength coach to help him get back on track and that he did. Ken stopped the fat burners, the heavy cardio sessions and got his weight to stabilize.  He accomplished this by consuming more protein. carbs and eating good old fashioned whole foods. Ken now trains every single facet of strength. He’s explosive, enduring and handling iron that he was using as a heavy weight strongman. With Ken following his new diet and changing his training routine he came in first place in the Colorado State Strongman as a middle weight. When you take action and make a plan you can’t fail. Eric and Ken discuss strongman for kids. We discuss my student Alex and how much strongman has already started to shape his strength. We feel that is such a great sport strongman will go mainstream in many ways. We talk about some of the great strongman of today such as Eddie Hall, Thor, Zydrunas, Brian Shaw etc. Ken brings us an insiders view to these big names and his opinions on what he see’s at that level of strength. Frank Robles-Dedication To Our Two Brothers-#252-Eric and Frank talk about the power of mental vision. We get into the long and short version of mental vision.  Eric and Frank talk about how his lifting helps with his job of being a Boston Firefighter. Frank uses his vision of being in a life or death situation on the job and trains with heavy implements such as sandbags to build the mind set he needs to save lives as an example. We talk about those weakest moments when you feel like you don’t have anything left and suddenly it happens! What happens? You do it, finish it and win! We get into the case for  adaptability in your training. How hard can you push it, adapt, gain and start the process all over again. How much can you take? I believe and so does Frank to even think about adaptability training you must have a mental tenacity like no other. Will you have the guts to stick it out. Will you be able to push your body to new heights. The bottom line is what do you want and what are you willing to give up to achieve this? Frank is a strongman who really has a grip on training and works very hard to achieve excellence. He is a man I would walk side by side in battle because he is a man of honor. Odd Haugen-The Measure of a Man-#241-Eric and Odd discuss his origins of weightlifting. As a young boy there wasn’t much he saw that he didn’t want to lift. As a young boy in wood shop class he was building benches while the other boys were building boats. In fact Odd still has that bench. Odd  and I go through his lifelong training journal. He leans now towards the strongman movements out of all the strength sports he’s ever competed in and there have been many. Now that he has decided this will be his last professional strongman contest coming up in August he will concentrate on MAS Wrestling and Grip Sports Contests. We talk about Odd’s Strongman peers he looks up to. We talk about the mental aspects of training and why its always good to have something to shoot for. We talk about why people age and how their self talk has crippled them and aged them considerably. Odd’s advice for anti aging is to keep moving, stop sitting so much and think youth. This podcast has lots of history from a strongman who has seen it all up to this point. Odd gives us a glimpse into a very strong life that seems to keep growing. He describes how being picked on as a young kid made him want to get big and strong so this would no longer happen. Will like myself liked the team sport concept to a point  but when we picked up our first barbell everything changed. We had found our calling and decided to carve a new path and find what we were made of both physically and mentally. Dimitar Savatinov-Wrestler, Strongman, and Ringling Brothers Circus-#201

Dimitar Savatinov-Wrestler, Strongman, and Ringling Brothers Circus-#201This gentleman has had one interesting life up to this point. Eric and Dimitar talk about his early roots. He was born in Russia to a Russian mother and Bulgarian father. In 2006, Dimitar came to the United States with a Bulgarian Acrobatic Teeterboard Act to perform for Ringling Brothers Circus on a two year tour. Dimitar was invited to witness a powerlifting meet which changed his whole life. He fell in love with strength. In 2009 he entered his first strongman contest and won first place. In 2012 the circuses strongman was injured so Dimitar took over his act for the next six months. His strongman act consisted of laying on broken glass while a board on his chest had twelve performers dancing on it, bending iron bars, holding and spinning seven girls on a  human carousel, lifting a 200-pound  kettle bell, and, finally, having a car drive over him.
