Raynor Wortel-Super Strength-#493

Raynor Wortel-Super Strength-#493-Eric Fiorillo The Host of The Award Winning Motivation and Muscle Podcast Show Welcomes Raynor Wortel to the Broadcast. Raynor is a Highland Games competitor and strongman. Eric and Raynor talk about whats been going on with his training and his next competition. This is what its all about. So lets get together here and go after some big things. Raynor tells Eric that’s he’s got a huge highland games event at the amateur level coming up. This is all part of of a strength package hosting cross fit events, Giants Qualifier, stone lifting events and speakers such as Strongman Bill Kazmier.  Another big thing about Raynors Highland Games meet is depending on where he places in the contest he has a chance to get his pro card. Something very important we hit upon right away is the word self-confidence. Raynor understands the field now and has the experience to reformulate his thinking and approach to this monster contest he’s part of. Your thinking is and will always be the defining moment in anything you do. Raynor talks about his progression into the strength sports with it all starting when he joined the army. Raynor tells Eric that after his day was done the only thing to do was pump iron. So all he really ever did was benching and shoulder work. He didn’t do any leg work because they were always running. Then one day his roommate introduced him to squats and deadlifts. Raynor was now hooked with building the lower body and this started his progression into the strongman world. Eric and Raynor talk about building super strength through grip training. Just a few to really pay attention to are the farmers walk, event training, carries and hanging from a chinning bar to name a few. We talk about the strength and mental factors when lifting a hugely famous stone. Not only is it something that has been here since the beginning of time but the culture, history and who has held it and lifted it is such a big factor.  We talk about the importance of taking care of yourself and becoming a physical and mental machine. Does the word win come to mind? Win at everything you do and pass it along. Winning through Super Strength anyone? The Motivation and Muscle Podcast Connects Your Brain To Your Brawn. Enjoy!

Jedd Johnson-Lower Back Health-#492

Jedd Johnson-Lower Back Health-#492-Eric Fiorillo The Host of The Award Winning Motivation and Muscle Podcast Show Welcomes Jedd Johnson to the Broadcast. Jedd is a Speaker, Performing Strongman and Three Time National Grip Strength Champion. Eric and Jedd fire right into lower back health. We start right off with how many strength athletes are constantly having some type of back problem which is limiting their ability to train heavy. Jedd tells Eric he had the same problems with his back from 2006 thru 2012. He got to the point where he could no longer tough it out, This is when he had to make a change. Eric and Jedd talk about how to rehab your back and address these heavy duty issues. Two big things of note here is, how good is your form when your training explosive back work and how well is your musculature conditioned? We talk about the reality that not everyone is of the body type structure to be a great squatter or deadlifter, Now this doesn’t mean you can’t get better or overcome these flaws in certain lifts but its going to require constant hard work and taking care of the lower back outside of the gym also. Jedd tells Eric that he believes barbell bent over rows are a movement to stay away from. Now that doesn’t mean to give up rowing. One example which will give you the same benefits or more is the one handed dumbbell row. This leads into Eric telling Jedd how he’ll row with a one inch handle and a two inch handle back and forth in a workout. What this has done is help heal the injury and now has led to greater expectations. When you can leave that nights workout and be so fired up for the next one you’ve hit upon something big! We discuss Jedds father now coming on board and being trained under his watchful eye. His dad has some serious back issues after a fall and finally decided to come on board and strengthen his body from top to bottom. Jedd suggests to Eric that some of the things to strengthen for optimal back health are the hip flexors, glutes and your posterior chain. Warmups are essential before you hit the weights and make sure you put as much time into upper back health as you do with your lower back health. Do you want a bullet proof back? Lets all practice lower back health! The Motivation and Muscle Podcast Connects Your Brain To Your Brawn. Enjoy!

Adrian O’Brien EKI-What’s Required-#491

Adrian O’Brien EKI-What’s Required-#491-Eric Fiorillo The Host of The Award Winning Motivation and Muscle Podcast Show Welcomes strength trainer, IKFF certified kettlebell instructor, certified mace instructor, Olympic lifting instructor and a teacher of being the best version of you everyday of your life Adrian O’Brien to the Broadcast. Eric and Adrian start the show right off with Adrian telling our family what his definition of What’s Required is. For Adrian its the standards you set in your life. It’s also whats required of you and how you follow through. Adrian tells what success means not only to him but gives examples of what it means to other people. Adrian quotes one of the greatest motivational speakers of all time Earl Nightingale on his thoughts about success. Nightingale lays it right out by stating:”Success is the realization of a worthy ideal.” When we establish what it is we want we work diligently to reach that goal. The problem with this idea in today’s world is everything now must happen instantaneously. Anything which is going to require sacrifice and real grit is going to take a lifetime to master. Eric and Adrian talk about how much can the human spirit withstand and how will you react to it. How do you become great as a trainer, lifter or leader. It all comes down to your pursuit of that dream. How hard will you work? Will you step out of your comfort zone and go after something that is so far beyond anything you’ve ever attempted? This is how you become a great teacher because you will do and try the things most people shy away from. We talk about how weak society has become and how it takes liberties on feeding generations of people only the worlds negatives. Through this onslaught of consistent negative reinforcement people feel helpless and always feel they need outside help to cure their problems. Eric and Adrian see the world in a much better way. We see no limitations on anyone and we strive to teach our students that. Impose your will on everything you do. Build these principals solidly in your mind and reinforce them with constant repetition everyday. Learn to set the pace for your training. Build reachable goals. Set a new standard! Take the things that matter the most to you and defy the odds. Win, Win, Win! So Whats Required? If you can answer that honestly greatness is right around the bend! The Motivation and Muscle Podcast Connects Your Brain To Your Brawn. Enjoy!

Bud Jeffries-Combinations and Courage-#488

Bud Jeffries-Combinations and Courage-#488-Eric Fiorillo The Host of The Award Winning Motivation and Muscle Podcast Show Welcomes Bud Jeffries to the Broadcast. Bud is a Strength coach, author, motivational speaker, minister, business owner and one of only a handful of professional performing strongman on tour in the USA. Eric and Bud fire the show right up with why combinations and courage in your training?  We define combination training in two different ways. The first way is known as super setting or back to back lifts. An example would be the squat and deadlift. The next combination would be taking one very heavy lift and combining it with a movement based lift. We explore the neurological  response to the body. Whats most important here is realizing that the mental responses to lifting big objects goes much deeper into us then we ever thought. Eric and Bud talk about the combination Eric is doing which entails a circus dumbbell, husateel stone and a 2″ axle bent row. The courage just to execute this combination takes lots of grit and guts. We talk about adding all kinds of different dimensions to your training. One example Bud explains to Eric is the ability to get super great with a kettlebell movement. This can be accomplished by adding something very heavy in the middle of these combinations. You’ll build so much new found strength and cognitive power that when you switch back to your higher rep movement your output will be much greater. The idea with combination style training is not to keep stressing the same muscles when you want to create the strongest you from head to toe. One great combination to try is the dead stop squat and kettlebell swings. These two movements work you from head to toe but don’t run over one another when training them hard. Always remember to keep doing the basic movements and add some combinations into the mix. How exciting is it to grow so much stronger, much more enduring and learning how to stretch your mind as far as it will go? Do you have the courage? If so, go after some combinations! The Motivation and Muscle Podcast Connects Your Brain To Your Brawn. Enjoy!

Wade Johnson-Decline Press-#485

Wade Johnson-Decline Press-#485-Eric Fiorillo The Host of The Award Winning Motivation and Muscle Podcast Show welcomes Wade Johnson to the Broadcast. Wade is the owner of the Ogre Compound , Champion Powerlifter, Olympic Lifter and Coach/Trainer. Eric and Wade open the show with Wade and his girlfriend Melissa competing in Relentless Minnesota. We talk about Melissa’s personal records for the weekend and Wade ‘s relentless pursuit to lift his best through injury and the recent death of a good friend. Eric and Wade move right into the decline bench and why something that is so uncommon to see is a staple of Wade and the Ogre Compound. Wade describes the influence of the decline press came from Bob Shieffer who wrote with Wade at PowerMag Magazine. Bob and Wade began to correspond by email and Wade wanted Bob to come out and evaluate not only his training but his training principals. This is when Bob suggested the incline press bench to Wade. Wade went with a much steeper decline bench angle then other commercial benches. This really takes out the harsh beating our shoulders get from constantly flat benching. Wade really wanted to train the bench press twice a week but realized that this wasn’t going to happen on a flat bench. Bob stressed to Wade that if he gave the decline bench press a chance for eight weeks there would only be a positive response to his flat bench in competition. Bob was right and Wades flat bench press grew bigger. Another big thing to come out of the decline bench press was Wade no longer needed all of the auxiliary movements he had to do when he was strictly using the flat bench press to increase his total. We talk about the unorthodox lifts that we do and how they translate to every other lift. Wade has so many students he teaches this philosophy to and it proves itself over and over. Would you like to step out of the box and make a big change in your training? Eric and Wade will give you the tools to make your own success. The Motivation and Muscle Podcast Connects Your Brain To Your Brawn. Enjoy!

Frank is The Cave Gym Owner, Trainer, Strongman, Crossfit Athlete and Writer. Eric and Frank talk about a seminar Frank had just attended with Ed Coan as the presenter for students who wanted some real lifting pointers for improvement. One thing Frank noticed right away was the high quality of lifters that wanted to learn from the master Ed Coan. Frank described Ed to Eric as a very humble man, the same height which surprised him and still in very good shape. We talked about Franks expectations of Ed Coan. Frank explained to Eric he didn’t know what to expect. He new one thing that everyone in that room would walk away with something from this experience.  Frank tells Eric that this event was very hands on with everyone who attended. Ed would go to each lifting station and help any of the lifters with any questions or anything that needed to be corrected. Frank tells Eric that Ed was so thorough and demonstrated impeccable  technique on every lift. Eric and Frank talk about always having one more in the tank no matter what the odds are. Frank demonstrated this when Ed made a correction to his lift. Frank new he had one more left in him  for the day and through that self confidence and Ed Coan being right there his goal for the day was attained. We always talk about words, actions and important people who can change the course of your life. Frank met just that man. Steve Cotter-Kettlebells Meet Strongman-#481

Steve Cotter-Kettlebells Meet Strongman-#481-Eric Fiorillo The Host of The Award Winning Motivation and Muscle Podcast Show Welcomes Steve Cotter to the broadcast. Steve is the Founder and Director of the IKFF, champion athlete, kettlebell trainer, martial arts trainer, and an expert in the human performance fields. For anyone who really wants to build slabs of endurance into their strongman program do we have a blast of strength and endurance for you. Eric and Steve are going to teach you how to marry these two sports together. The three strongman movements were going to use today are the tire flip, stone carry and the farmers walk. Steve describes how kettlebells which will be much lighter then the strongman movements we do will have a much more pronounced effect not only on our endurance but will really condition our nervous system. When you have those two areas covered victory is yours.  We talk about working it in to your strongman program and describe how to execute the KB Swing and goblet squat holding for time. Just to give you a great tip for stone lifting the goblet squat will teach you how to get low enough to wrap your arms around those big stones so you can tear them right off the ground. We also talk about a great way to stretch the hip girdle out thoroughly using a kettlebell and two cinder blocks.  Another kettlebell movement which we covered on the podcast is taking a kettlebell and with one arm locking it out overhead and carrying for distance. This will make you very stable through the midsection and protect you shoulders from injury. We also like to use the swing for a finisher after all of the tire carries, farmers walk and stone carries. This will not only aide in your recovery but will reinforce why your doing this in the first place. Do you want speed, strength, endurance and the vision to see it through? Then grab a kettlebell and lets get started! The Motivation and Muscle Podcast Connects Your Brain To Your Brawn. Enjoy!

Roger LaPointe-DB’S&ROWS-#480

Roger LaPointe-DB’S&ROWS-#480-Eric Fiorillo The Host of The Award Winning Motivation and Muscle Podcast Show Welcomes The President of Atomic Athletic, Olympic Lifter and Competitor, Stone Lifter and Strength Historian Roger LaPointe to the Broadcast. Eric and Roger kick the podcast right off with two of the biggest result producing exercises ever. The two were going to bring to you today is heavy dumbbell work and the art of bent rowing. We begin with the Cyr db one hand lift overhead. The whole idea of this was to get a monster db onto your shoulder and lock it out  overhead anyway you could. We talk about how much muscle is involved  from head to toe when lifting and pressing one of these dumbbells. We believe the midsection is taxed much more then a barbell and the level of athleticism has to be brought up to a much higher level because of the physical and mental demands placed on the body. We also address the lack of trainees not only pressing but so many not even knowing what a bent row is. The row comes in variations such as using an olympic bar, dumbbells and kettlebells. We also talk about the thickness of the bar  we use when we dumbbell row. We talk about if you want to be a great stone lifter work some dumbbell rows into your program. We talk about how to create a routine with the emphasis on pressing over head and pulling bent rows. We add some high bar Olympic squats, neck work and grip work into the mix and you have a program that delivers muscle mass, strength and vitality. These are two lifts which anyone can do. Dive into these two lifts and build coconut sized shoulder and lats so big you’ll feel you can fly! Do you want to lift big? Sink your teeth into some  dumbbells and rows and let the gains begin! Jason Gregory-Apollon Axle Deadlift-#479

Jason Gregory-Apollon Axle Deadlift-#479-Eric Fiorillo The Host of The Award Winning Motivation and Muscle Podcast Show Welcomes Metal Musician, Personal Trainer, Stone Lifter and Steel Bender Jason Gregory to the Broadcast. Eric and Jason kick the show right off with Jason meeting a mutual friend of ours. Jason went and visited Will Dinwiddies gym Epic Fitness to get some tips on arm wrestling. Jason tells us it was the first time he’s ever visited a real hardcore gym and what a great guy Will is. Eric and Jason now move right into training the deadlift with the Apollon Axle. Jason tells us that he recently pulled successfully 213 pounds for a triple. His biggest goal he has set for the coming year is to do a double body weight deadlift with the Apollon Axle. He’s weighing a little over 160lbs so that would equate to a 325 pound pull with the axle. We talk about Adam T Glass and at a little over 200 pounds he could compete with grip athletes who weighed 300 pounds plus of body weight. We talk about how beneficial it is to use these thicker bars to build a gorilla  grip. Jason tells us he works long hours in a mill and has conditioned himself and his grip to be able to deadlift six days in a row with a three inch bar. It might not be maximum weight but the ability to put out that type of work is amazing. We talk about setting up the right atmosphere to lift these thick implements. Jason tells Eric that when you walk into his garage he has thick bar dumbbells all over the floor and the apollon axle and stones everywhere to. Who wouldn’t get excited coming into that atmosphere? We talk about the barbaric style of stone lifting. We both agree there’s nothing like lifting the different shapes of stones, how to turn them and set and holds and carries. We also talk about the toughness it brings to your hands and the biggest factor is your mind. So if you want to build some real manhood tackle some thick bar and stone work! Will you join us men and woman? The Motivation and Muscle Podcast Connects Your Brain To Your Brawn. Enjoy!

5 For 15-Not Taught in School-#478-7

5 For 15-Not Taught in School-#478-7-My Guest today is Adam T Glass and we together pack 15 minutes of the most explosive, inspirational thought provoking material in the entire world. Not Taught in School is our topic for today’s show. Eric and Adam really give our listeners a big wallop. As Adam explains to Eric nobody cares about the  fashion statements you make or how cool you think you are in the real world. You will be judged on how you carry yourself. Some examples Eric and Adam give are do you look somebody in the eye when you first meet them, do you have a firm handshake, do you speak clearly, do you walk proud with your head up and do you have a robust strong voice? We talk about time management and your responsibility to be on time. This is a hard sell to many people because there is always an excuse or they’ve been wronged at some point in their life. If you keep rolling with that thought process don’t be upset when the good jobs evaporate right before your eyes. Eric and Adam talk about taking the bull by the horns. Eric tells Adam his dad would pound that into his head as a child. Well it worked because I have a relentless drive to succeed big. Adam explains that there is no such thing as fairness. It’s all man made. There is though a right and a wrong and until you dig your heels in and establish that within your life, life will be more of a headache then a real possibility. Are you a steward of strength? Will you carry yourself with pride? Become a self taught man or woman! The Motivation and Muscle Podcast Connects Your Brain To Your Brawn. Enjoy!
