Now that he has decided this will be his last professional strongman contest coming up in August he will concentrate on MAS Wrestling and Grip Sports Contests. Today’s Topic for discussion is:”Hit and Runs.” Eric and David kick 5 For 15 right off with this question? Do any of us realize how important your words are? When you speak to someone in a negative or positive way there is always going to be something remembered by the other person your verbally engaging with. With Hit and Runs we only go after the positive aspects of creating a good productive life. Look into that persons eyes your mentoring or when your giving somebody a little hope who is down on their luck. Watch their mannerisms and see their reaction to what you have said to them. I guarantee it will be met with a big smile. Just think we all have the ability to change the present and the future in others just by the words we say. How many times has someone that you respect or admired said a few kind words or instructed you to make a few changes and in a split second your whole outlook did a 360 degree turn for the better. The best thing to remember is even if you never meet that person again your kind words could very well produce someone who does great things in the future. Eric and David hit upon a very important point that we both experience quite a bit. Just because its not in a physical sense right now doesn’t mean its not happening around you. Be willing to take that leap of faith and know that your dreams are working ever so hard to reach you. Remember everything you do will come back to you in one shape or form. Learn to be a lightning rod to influence, teach and inspire. These are the traits of a leader. What you do now and always with yourself and the others you meet will truly echo through eternity! Eric and James start right  off with  his influences into the world of strength and size. Some of James mentors were Arnold, Franco and Tom Platz.

We compare early bodybuilding to today’s athletes and how James feels Lee Haney was the last of the old school bodybuilders even though he never trained as heavy as Arnold or Franco. After his era the training style went a whole different direction.

Eric and James compare some of the strength era’s and how much we enjoyed the different athletes that participated in the earlier Worlds Strongest Man. You had this mix of unique athletes who all had monster strength but were never considered specialists. Unlike in today’s strength world specialization is king. To us it really showed who the true champion was.

We talk about the the letter A for achievement. Take a chance on yourself. The first step might be to enter a contest. Sign yourself up for something and do the best you can. As James tells Eric lifting is pure therapy for you. Your telling yourself the reason I’m here is to improve.

That’s a very powerful statement. When we teach we learn.

Steve is the Founder and Director of the IKFF, champion athlete, kettlebell trainer, martial arts trainer, and an expert in the human performance fields. For anyone who really wants to build slabs of endurance into their strongman program do we have a blast of strength and endurance for you. Eric and Steve are going to teach you how to marry these two sports together. The three strongman movements were going to use today are the tire flip, stone carry and the farmers walk. Steve describes how kettlebells which will be much lighter then the strongman movements we do will have a much more pronounced effect not only on our endurance but will really condition our nervous system. When you have those two areas covered victory is yours.  We talk about working it in to your strongman program and describe how to execute the KB Swing and goblet squat holding for time. Just to give you a great tip for stone lifting the goblet squat will teach you how to get low enough to wrap your arms around those big stones so you can tear them right off the ground. We also talk about a great way to stretch the hip girdle out thoroughly using a kettlebell and two cinder blocks.  Another kettlebell movement which we covered on the podcast is taking a kettlebell and with one arm locking it out overhead and carrying for distance. This will make you very stable through the midsection and protect you shoulders from injury. We also like to use the swing for a finisher after all of the tire carries, farmers walk and stone carries. This will not only aide in your recovery but will reinforce why your doing this in the first place. Do you want speed, strength, endurance and the vision to see it through?
